From Infiltration to EU Trade: Amit Shah Outlines Assam’s Growth Roadmap

The Union Home Minister promises to identify and deport infiltrators “one by one,” targets Congress over vote-bank politics, and highlights zero-tariff EU tea exports, peace accords and major development projects in Assam

Dibrugarh: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 30 asserted that illegal immigration would be dealt firmly in Assam, promising that infiltrators would be identified and deported “one by one” if the BJP returns to power.

Addressing a large public gathering at Khanikar stadium in Dibrugarh, Shah said unchecked infiltration had disturbed the state’s demographic balance and posed threats to Assam’s culture, land and indigenous identity.

The Union Minister further accused the Congress of encouraging illegal migration for vote-bank politics. The Minister alleged that earlier governments failed to protect local communities. In contrast, he said the BJP remained committed to safeguarding Assam’s heritage, citing action against encroachments in culturally significant areas and forest land.

Moreover, several developmental initiatives were also highlighted, describing Assam as a priority for infrastructure expansion. He pointed to investments in roads, railways, waterways and semiconductor projects, along with flood-control reservoirs aimed at reducing annual devastation while promoting tourism and water sports.

Focusing on the tea industry, the Union Minister said the proposed India–EU free trade agreement would allow Assam tea to enter 27 European countries at zero tariff, boosting exports and benefiting garden workers. Calling Dibrugarh, the ‘tea capital,’ he credited labourers for giving Assam tea global recognition and noted land rights provided to lakhs of workers under recent reforms.

The Home Minister further claimed that the Northeast had witnessed greater peace under the BJP, with multiple accords signed and thousands of youths laying down arms. He urged voters to support the party for a third term, promising continued development, cultural protection and strict action against illegal immigration.
