The two-day Mera Yuva Bharat competition held at S.S. College playground in Hailakandi majorly focused on youth participation

Hailakandi: The two-day district-level sports competition for 2025–26, organised by the Hailakandi unit of Mera Yuva Bharat (formerly Nehru Yuva Kendra), concluded successfully on January 3, with enthusiastic participation from young athletes across the district.
The sports meet was held at the S.S. College Playground, which saw the active involvement of young men and women from various parts of Hailakandi. The event’s prime aim was to promote sportsmanship, fitness and youth engagement through healthy competition. The competition was formally inaugurated by Diganta Das, physiotherapist of S.K. Roy Hospital, who, while addressing the participants, encouraged them to pursue sports not only as a competitive activity but also as a way of life. He highlighted the importance of physical fitness and discipline among the youth.
A total of six sporting events were organised during the two-day programme. Football, kabaddi, athletics and badminton emerged as the main attractions, also drawing large crowds and lively participation. All the events were conducted in both men’s and women’s categories to ensure equal opportunities for young athletes.
Throughout the competition, the playground remained vibrant, with teams and individual participants displaying skill, teamwork and sporting spirit. Local spectators also turned up in good numbers to cheer the players, adding to the festive atmosphere of the event.
The district-level sports competition was organised with the support of the Take More Foundation, Hailakandi, which played a key role in the smooth conduct of the programme.
Mera Yuva Bharat, functioning under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, focuses on empowering young people through sports, leadership development and community-based activities. Organisers said such events help identify local talent and encourage youth to remain actively involved in sports and constructive pursuits.
Participants and organisers alike described the competition as a success and expressed hope that similar programmes would continue to be organised in the future to nurture sporting talent in the district.
