The Leader op oppsosition hits back at Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleges BJP poaching attempts ahead of polls

Guwahati: Leader of the Opposition and senior Congress leader Debabrata Saikia has expressed concern over the resignation of former APCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah, saying any leader leaving the Indian National Congress at election time weakens the party’s prospects.
Reacting to the development, Saikia stressed that Borah’s political value cannot be measured numerically. “Every vote counts to win in electoral politics. So, I would not like to lose even one vote. Bhupen Borah is not someone whose value equals just one vote. Any leader, if he leaves the party at the time of election, it will be difficult,” he said.
Taking a swipe at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has announced plans to meet Borah, Saikia alleged that the BJP is trying to lure Congress leaders. “CM can say so many things. Let him visit, he is trying to take me also into the BJP,” he remarked, adding that several senior BJP leaders themselves originally came from Congress.
“Many of his prominent ministers are from Congress. Congress has already given some leaders to the BJP. He wants more. But I think none of the present leaders will go,” the Congress leader further asserted.
His remarks underline the intensifying political tug-of-war in Assam, with both sides trading charges and attempting to consolidate support as the state heads toward a high-stakes electoral contest.
