SDLC meeting assesses progress, addresses challenges, and pushes for effective grassroots execution of FRA, 2006
Sonitpur: The District Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the Sub-Divisional Level Committee (SDLC) to review the implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, at the Conference Hall of the District Commissioner’s Office.
The meeting brought together key administrative and forest officials to evaluate the progress of the Act and discuss measures to strengthen its execution at the grassroots level. Co-District Commissioner of Dhekiajuli, Dyotiva Bora; Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) and Field Director of Nameri Tiger Reserve, Piraisoodan B; and DFO of Sonitpur West Division, Biswa Jyoti Das were present, along with Zila Parishad members, District Level Committee (DLC) and Forest Rights Committee (FRC) representatives, and other concerned officials.
The discussion focused on reviewing the status of claims, identifying bottlenecks in the recognition of forest rights, and improving coordination between departments to ensure timely processing and delivery of benefits to eligible forest dwellers and indigenous communities.
Moreover, the District Commissioner stressed the importance of transparent procedures, accurate verification, and effective field-level monitoring to uphold the objectives of the Act. He directed officials to address pending issues promptly and ensure that rightful beneficiaries receive their entitlements without delay.
The meeting reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of forest-dependent communities while promoting inclusive and sustainable development across Sonitpur.
