Congress Releases Second List of 23 Candidates for Assam Assembly Elections

Party reserves 15 constituencies for alliance partners as Central Election Committee clears nominations

Guwahati: The Indian National Congress on Saturday night released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, announcing 23 nominees for constituencies across the state. The list was approved by the party’s Central Election Committee in New Delhi.

Among the candidates named are Kartik Chandra Roy from Golakganj, Wazed Ali Choudhury from Birsingjarua, Amrit Badsha from Bilasipara, Mahibur Rahman from Mankachar, and Abul Kalam Rashid Alam from East Goalpara.

The party has also fielded Kishore Kumar Brahma from Dudhnoi (ST), Nurul Islam from Srijangram, Abdul Khaleque from Mandia, Rekibuddin Ahmed from Chamariya, and Pranjit Choudhury from Rangia.

Other candidates include Kishore Kumar Baruah from Dimoria (SC), Shantanu Bora from New Guwahati, Rijumoni Talukdar from Mangaldoi, and Jhilli Choudhury from Hojai.

The remaining nominees are Batas Orang from Dhekiajuli, Kartik Chandra Kurmi from Rangapara, Dr Shankar Jyoti Kutum from Gohpur, Shailen Sonowal from Dhemaji (ST), David Phukan from Tinsukia, Bipul Gogoi from Tingkhong, Sagarika Bora from Dergaon, Dhrubajyoti Purkayastha from Dhalai (SC), and Aminur Rashid Choudhury from South Karimganj.

The party also announced that 15 constituencies will be left for alliance partners. These include Bhabanipur-Sorbhog, Bajali, Palasbari, Central Guwahati, Goreswar, Morigaon, Baghompur, Binnakandi, Bihali (SC), Sadiya, Dibrugarh, Khowang, Saruppathar, Diphu (ST), and Amri (ST).

The move reflects the Congress party’s strategy to strengthen opposition coordination ahead of the elections while accommodating key allies across different regions of Assam.
