Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dedicates a majestic memorial to the Ahom dynasty’s founder at Notboma, honouring his legacy of unity, harmony and the vision of Bor Asom

Guwahati: Marking the sacred occasion of Me-Dam-Me-Phi, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially unveiled a grand statue of Swargadeo Chaolung Su-Ka-Pha at Notboma in Guwahati, in an attempt to pay tribute to the visionary founder of the Ahom dynasty and one of Assam’s most revered historical figures.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Marhherita, Member of Parliament, Pradan Baruah, and several other dignitaries.
The unveiling ceremony was also attended by officials, community members and admirers, reflecting the deep cultural and historical significance of the day. The Chief Minister offered prayers for peace, prosperity and the well-being of the people of the state, invoking the spirit of unity that Su-Ka-Pha symbolised.
Recalling the Ahom ruler’s legacy, the Chief Minister highlighted how Su-Ka-Pha brought together diverse communities and laid the foundation of Bor Asom through harmony, consensus and inclusive governance. He noted that the Ahom kingdom went on to become one of the greatest realms of Bharatvarsha, rooted in the protection of heritage, identity and collective progress.
Addressing the media after the ceremony, the Chief Minister said the installation of the statue fills a long-standing void, as Guwahati previously lacked a prominent memorial dedicated to the iconic founder. He described the monument as a tribute not only to history but also to the values of unity and coexistence that continue to guide Assam’s development.
The statue now stands as a landmark in the heart of the city, serving as a reminder of Su-Ka-Pha’s enduring contribution to Assam’s culture, identity and shared future.
