State-of-the-art 800-seater facility of Sri Sri Damodardeva International Auditorium at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra to strengthen Assam’s cultural and global event capabilities

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday inaugurated the Sri Sri Damodardeva International Auditorium at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, marking a major milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen cultural infrastructure and position the city as a leading convention hub in the Northeast.

The newly constructed auditorium has a seating capacity of 800, strategically bridging the gap between the existing 300-seater and 1,200-seater halls at the Kalakshetra. Designed to host a wide range of cultural programmes, conferences, and international events, the facility is equipped with advanced technological features to meet global standards.

The high-tech auditorium includes high-resolution cameras for professional recording, large LED walls, acoustic panelling for enhanced sound quality, and a digital podium. Special emphasis has been placed on accessibility, with wheelchair-friendly lifts ensuring inclusive participation. The venue also allows multiple performers to share the stage simultaneously, making it suitable for collaborative performances and large-scale productions.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister said the new auditorium reflects the government’s commitment to creating world-class infrastructure that supports Assam’s rich cultural heritage while enabling global engagement. He added that the Sri Sri Damodardeva International Auditorium will play a key role in transforming Guwahati into a vibrant centre for conventions, cultural exchange, and international dialogue.
