Centre approves special housing package; Awaas+ 2024 window to fast-track rehabilitation of violence-affected families

Imphal: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh called on Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi to discuss rehabilitation measures for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the State. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho.
Following the meeting, the Union Minister approved the construction of 5,000 new houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMA-G) for the financial year 2025–26 to support IDPs affected by the crisis. The decision is expected to provide permanent shelter and restore stability to thousands of displaced families.
The proposal, submitted earlier this month by the State Government, seeks to rehabilitate affected households through a structured housing assistance programme. In addition, the Ministry of Rural Development has approved a special window under Awaas+ 2024 to capture details of eligible families to ensure that no deserving beneficiary is left out.
The State Government has been permitted to continue the registration process of beneficiaries under the special PMAY–G project through the Awaas+ 2024 mobile app, strictly as per scheme guidelines, enabling faster identification, transparency and timely implementation.
Importantly, eligible beneficiaries whose houses were previously sanctioned under PMAY–G but were later destroyed during the violence will also be covered under the special project. This provision ensures continued support to families who had earlier received assistance but suffered losses due to the unrest.
