Central Investment of Worth Rs 6.5 Lakh Planned for Northeast: Scindia

Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated key projects in Tripura, highlighting connectivity, tourism and tribal development

Agartala: The Centre will invest Rs. 6.5 lakh crore in the Northeast over a period of the next 12 years under its plan of Gross Budgetary Support (GBS). The announcement was made by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia during his visit to Tripura, during which he dedicated several infrastructure projects to the region.

In this connection, Scindia inaugurated projects worth Rs. 540 crores and marked the formal launch of eight major development initiatives worth Rs. 365 crores. These projects focus on improving road connectivity, encouraging and developing more sectors regarding tourism, and ensuring the inclusive development of tribal regions across the state.

While addressing a public gathering, the minister said that hard work and determination on the part of the BJP have brought a major development for the Northeast. He also added that under ‘Ashtalakshmi’, a vision promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,  the Northeast has developed from being a backward region into a growth engine.

Among the completed projects are five projects amounting to ₹270 crores. These include the 13.775-km-long Jatanbari-Mandirghat via Tirathmukh Road and the 28.90-km long KA Road from Erarpar to Ambassa.

Another project that Scindia discussed is the Gandacherra-Raishyabari-Narikel Kunja Road, which would provide greater connectivity for tribal villages, thus accessing essential facilities. The improvement of road connectivity from Amarpur to Chabimura would definitely increase tourism potential, as tourists could witness the natural and cultural heritage of Tripura.

With the introduction of the PM-DevINE scheme, the Solar Micro Grid project will provide reliable electricity to the remote regions of the area. To boost connectivity in the remote regions of the area covered by the municipality, foundation stones were laid for the construction of three road projects that together amount to an investment of Rs. 95 crore.

The minister reiterated that all Central ministries allocate 10 per cent of their budgets to the Northeast, accelerating development across the region.
