Four new initiatives under BTC aim to boost infrastructure, generate jobs and promote youth, artisans and cultural heritage across the region.

Kokrajhar: In a significant push to strengthen infrastructure and livelihoods in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary on Wednesday laid the foundation stones for four key development projects in Kokrajhar district, spanning sports, handloom, and cultural sectors.
The day’s programme began at Dotma with the launch of an upgraded DASA Stadium a project estimated at Rs 15 crore, envisioned as a modern sports facility capable of hosting competitive football and athletics events. Equipped with a standard playing field, athletic track, lighting and spectator galleries, the stadium is expected to nurture local talent and encourage organised tournaments.
Mohilary also initiated work on a large Production and Marketing Centre for handloom and textile products at Haltugaon for Rs 24.31 crore, which is spread across 50 bighas of land. The facility will focus on traditional items such as Eri silk sarees, mekhela chador, dokhona and stoles, while improving production capacity, branding and market access. The project is likely to create substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities for local weavers and artisans.
At KDSA, Kokrajhar, foundation stones were laid for dedicated audience galleries for volleyball and football venues for around Rs 4 crore, to enhance spectator facilities and promote greater youth participation in sports.
Additionally, the BTC Chief announced the construction of the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Memorial Multipurpose Cultural Auditorium, a project with a cost of Rs 30 crore, planned as a major centre for arts, music and community events, while honouring the legacy of the legendary cultural icon.
Mohilary said these initiatives reflect BTC’s commitment to balanced development, economic growth and social unity, and will help build a vibrant future for the region.
