BJP Faces Exodus in Dima Hasao: 30 Leaders Quit After Garlosa Exit

Resignations across key constituencies signal internal unrest in hill district unit ahead of Assembly elections

Dima Hasao: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suffered a setback in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, with at least 30 functionaries resigning from the party days after the exit of former minister Nandita Garlosa.

According to resignation letters dated March 23, the leaders stepped down from both their organisational roles and primary membership with immediate effect. Those who resigned include former district presidents, autonomous council members and office-bearers of various party wings.

The resignations span multiple constituencies, including Haflong, Mahur, Langting and Dautuhaja, pointing to a broader organisational churn within the hill district.

Sources indicated that dissatisfaction among local leaders over issues such as perceived neglect, lack of recognition and unease with recent political decisions had been building for some time. Garlosa’s departure is believed to have intensified these concerns, acting as a trigger for the coordinated exits.

While the leaders have not formally announced their next move, indications suggest that some may shift towards the Indian National Congress (INC), which is looking to strengthen its presence in the region.

The BJP has not issued an official statement on the development, though party sources acknowledged that the resignations reflect underlying tensions within the district unit.
