Avalanche Alert for High-Altitude Areas in Sikkim: Routes to Tsomgo Lake and Natula Closed

Warning for Gangtok and Pakyong as snowfall and rain worsen conditions; key tourist routes shut

Gangtok: Authorities have issued an avalanche alert for high-altitude regions of Gangtok and Pakyong in Sikkim amid concerns over unstable snow conditions.

According to the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority, avalanches are likely in areas above 3,500 metres over the next 24 hours. The advisory follows shifting weather patterns that are expected to increase snow instability in vulnerable zones.

Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and urged residents, tourists and travellers to remain cautious and follow official guidelines.

Heavy rainfall across several parts of the state since Friday has further worsened conditions in higher reaches. As a precautionary measure, key routes connecting Gangtok to Tsomgo Lake and Nathula have been temporarily closed due to heavy snowfall.
