Assam CM Marks 25 Years of Public Service: Reflects on Journey from MLA to Assam Chief Minister

Celebrating a quarter-century of service, Sarma reflects on his journey from grassroots MLA to Assam’s Chief Minister, pledging continued dedication to the state’s progress and welfare

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commemorated a deeply personal milestone, reflecting on 25 years of dedicated public service. From his first election as an MLA in 2001 to his current tenure as Chief Minister, the Chief Minister has chronicled a journey marked by resilience, vision, and unwavering commitment to the people of Assam.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Sarma expressed gratitude for the trust and affection bestowed upon him by the citizens of Assam. “While roles have evolved over time, my commitment to Jan Sewa has remained unwavering,” he wrote, underscoring his philosophy of putting public service above all.

Over the past two-and-a-half decades, the Chief Minister has played a pivotal role in shaping the state’s policies and development trajectory. In his early years, he actively participated in key legislative committees, championing rural development and education reforms.

By 2006, upon assuming ministerial responsibilities, he gained hands-on experience in governance-balancing fiscal prudence while expanding schools, introducing scholarships for meritorious students, and laying the groundwork for financial inclusion.

The year 2021 marked a new chapter, as Sarma assumed the office of Chief Minister. With a vision for a stronger and more decisive Assam, he has strived to continue the principles that guided him as a young legislator, transparency, accountability, and a relentless focus on the welfare of the people.

Reflecting on his journey from a young MLA speaking in the hallowed halls of the Assam Legislative Assembly to leading the state, Sarma acknowledged that the trust of the people has been his greatest source of strength. He also reaffirmed his commitment to the future, promising to continue serving his motherland with the same zeal that defined his early political career.

Concluding his reflection, Sarma looked ahead with optimism: “Here’s to the next 25 years of progress, peace, and prosperity. Jai Hind. Joi Aai Axom.

The milestone stands as a testament to Sarma’s enduring dedication to Assam, highlighting a career built on vision, perseverance, and a steadfast commitment to public service.
