New eco-tourism attraction at Kohora in Golaghat features glass houses, a cultural stage, a children’s park, and hundreds of indigenous and exotic orchids

Golaghat: In a major boost to Assam’s eco-tourism and cultural landscape, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 3 March inaugurated the Kaziranga Orchid Garden at Kohora, near the famed Kaziranga National Park.
Spread across 20 bighas, the garden showcases more than 900 indigenous and exotic orchid species, housed in seven state-of-the-art glass houses. The park also includes a children’s play area and a 500-seat cultural stage, designed to host performances and community events, blending nature with local art and heritage.

Calling the project a milestone for tourism and conservation, Sarma said the orchid garden fulfils a promise made in 2021 to establish an orchid park in Kaziranga. He noted that the facility will ultimately house over 1,600 orchid varieties and is expected to emerge as a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors from across the country.
Marking another significant step towards promoting heritage and local livelihoods, the CM also inaugurated the Kaziranga Heritage Resort, aimed at supporting local cuisine, cottage industries, and employment generation. The resort is expected to create opportunities for artisans, entrepreneurs, and small businesses while enhancing the tourism experience.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister dedicated multiple public infrastructure projects to the people, reiterating the government’s commitment to holistic development across tourism, culture, and community welfare sectors.
Together, the initiatives are set to strengthen Kaziranga’s appeal beyond wildlife tourism, positioning it as a vibrant hub for eco-tourism, heritage, and sustainable livelihoods.
