Assam CM Flags Off BJP’s ‘Jana Aashirwad Yatra’ from Dhekiajuli

Bharatiya Janata Party begins statewide campaign for 2026 polls, seeks public blessings for third consecutive term

Dekhiajuli: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on February 28, launched its statewide ‘Jana Aashirwad Yatra’ from Dhekiajuli. It marks the formal kickstart of its campaign for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections and seeks public blessings for a third straight term in office.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the outreach programme after offering prayers at the historic Gupteshwar Devalay in Sonitpur district. The yatra then moved through key constituencies including Barchalla, Tezpur, Naduar and Rangapara. The initiative draws large crowds of party workers and supporters.

Addressing gatherings along the route, the Chief Minister said, “You all elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, formed the BJP-led government in 2016, and again in 2021, helped us form the government. Throughout these years, we have tried to work for the people of the State.”

Highlighting what he described as a decade of development, the Chief Minister pointed to improvements in infrastructure, welfare delivery and security. He acknowledged that shortcomings may have existed but the government had made sincere efforts. “Today, Assam’s transformed atmosphere and development landscape show our commitment. We may not have met everyone’s expectations, but we never lacked in effort. We are witnessing a new, secure and developed Assam,” he asserted.

Urging voters to extend their support again, the Chief Minister added that the BJP would continue prioritising the welfare of the poor, middle class, farmers and labourers while taking Assam further on the path of growth.

The resident of the BJP’s Assam unit, Dilip Saikia, said the yatra aims to reach people in every district and highlight the achievements of BJP governments both at the Centre and in the State. He described thr CM as a leader who represents the aspirations of Assam’s 3.5 crore people and said the party is moving among the masses to seek their blessings.

Meanwhile, party leaders intensified their outreach during the march. BJP MP Pradan Baruah said the yatra enables the Chief Minister to directly connect with people and inform them about the government’s achievements over the past decade. BJP MLA Padma Hazarika expressed confidence about the party’s prospects, asserting that the BJP would secure a third consecutive term and projecting a decisive victory in the Naduar constituency.

Political observers view the ‘Jana Aashirwad Yatra‘ as a strategic move by the BJP to energise its cadre. It further reinforces its development narrative and builds early momentum for what promises to be an intense electoral contest in 2026.
