Cultural preservation and major connectivity projects mark development push in Kokrajhar and Udalguri

Kokrajhar: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 13 attended the 11th annual Sonkosh Kherai Festival and the 12th annual session of the Dularai Gudi Bathou Afad in Kokrajhar, underscoring the state government’s focus on protecting indigenous heritage while strengthening regional infrastructure.
During the event, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the Sonkosh Kherai complex infrastructure development project, to be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore. The heritage complex aims to preserve the sacred Bathou faith and promote the rich cultural traditions of the Bodo community. The Sonkosh Bathou Kherai Puja is regarded as a symbol of spiritual harmony and agricultural heritage, deeply rooted in Bodo identity.

Extending the development push to Udalguri, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a Railway Flyover at Golma Chowk–Mission Chariali Road. The Rs 63.45 crore project is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time and enhance connectivity, contributing to the district’s socio-economic growth. In an innovative step to maximise public space, a badminton facility is planned beneath the flyover.
The combined initiatives reflect the government’s approach of balancing cultural conservation with modern infrastructure, aimed at fostering inclusive growth and long-term prosperity across the Bodoland Territorial Region and Assam.
