The Chief Minister claims Raijor Dal may align with Congress, says party relies on family-based candidature

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that Akhil Gogoi, chief of Raijor Dal, has become a “victim of blackmail politics” by the Indian National Congress. The Cm further claims that he may eventually be compelled to align with the party ahead of the elections.
Speaking to the media, the CM said Gogoi’s political survival depends largely on retaining the Sivasagar Assembly seat. He claimed that it has weakened his negotiating position in any seat-sharing arrangement. He alleged that Congress is using this dependence to pressure the Raijor Dal leader and maintained that an alliance between the two parties is “99.9 percent certain,” the CM asserts.
The Chief Minister also remarked that both Congress and Raijor Dal are exerting pressure on each other politically but asserted that Gogoi would ultimately justify any tie-up as necessary to defeat the BJP. He further said Lurinjyoti Gogoi of the Assam Jatiya Parishad appears similarly inclined towards a Congress alliance to secure electoral success.
Moreover, the Chief Minsiter targeted the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee over its newly released candidate list, alleging it reflects “dynastic and family politics.” He claimed the list includes several relatives of prominent leaders, citing the families of former Chief Ministers Tarun Gogoi, Bhumidhar Barman, and Hiteswar Saikia.
Contrasting this with the Bharatiya Janata Party, the CM claims the BJP prioritises candidates from ordinary, lower-middle-class and economically weaker backgrounds, describing it as a key ideological difference between the two parties.
