SIT probe to MHA: Rs 400 crore CMAAA boost, IIM and schools approved

Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Lok Sewa Bhawan, Guwahati, announced a series of sweeping decisions aimed at strengthening governance, expanding education infrastructure, empowering youth and farmers, and addressing sensitive security matters.
In a significant move, the Cabinet resolved to forward the findings of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), linked to CID P.S Case No. 05/225, to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for further investigation through central agencies, citing the gravity of the case and the need for a wider probe.
Economic empowerment formed the core of the meeting. The Cabinet approved Rs 400 crore for implementing the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan (CMAAA), supporting paddy procurement above MSP, working capital loans, and youth entrepreneurship. Later, the Chief Minister chaired the second Governing Body meeting of CMAAA 2.0, reviewing steps to strengthen livelihoods and benefit over 75,000 aspiring entrepreneurs across Assam.
Education and institutional growth received a major push. The Cabinet cleared land allotment for establishing the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati, along with land allocations for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas at Chitalmari in Sonitpur and Borboruahkhat in Charaideo, besides waiving the transfer premium for land at Chandrapur. Additionally, 100 bighas of land at Kuriharparam, Paka Mouza, were approved for Krishna Guru Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalaya to support its expansion.
The Cabinet also approved the constitution of the 8th Assam Pay Commission, 2026, to review pay, allowances, and service conditions of government employees.
Together, the decisions outline a clear roadmap toward inclusive growth, stronger institutions, and a more self-reliant Assam.
