Assam Cabinet to Disburse Rs 3,600 Crore to 39.7 Lakh Beneficiaries in Largest-Ever ‘Orunodoi’ DBT

State government also greenlights welfare initiatives for ASHA workers, infrastructure projects, extended employee tenure, and support for Rajiv Sadiya’s widow.

Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, approved several significant welfare, infrastructure, and development measures. Under the Asha Express initiative, 33,656 ASHA workers and 2,570 supervisors will receive scooters to improve mobility for their field duties.

Administrative approval was granted for a College of Agriculture in Patharkandi at an estimated cost of Rs 122.22 crore, marking the first such institution in the Barak Valley.

Financial assistance measures included distributing Rs 9,000 each to 39.7 lakh Orunodoi beneficiaries through a single-day transfer, the largest DBT in Assam’s history. The VAT on aviation turbine fuel was reduced from 23.65% to 18.65%, ensuring parity with other states and encouraging better air connectivity.

Infrastructure projects received a boost with Rs 519.79 crore sanctioned for roads in Sixth Schedule and border areas, alongside RS 400 crore for the Mega Mission Society to streamline flagship schemes.

The Cabinet extended service tenure to 60 years for contractual employees aged above 45 in the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, and Golap Borbora Institute of Rural Development.

Land allotments were approved for 326 Mission Basundhara beneficiaries and 249 indigenous landless families. Eight bighas were allocated to the Golaghat District Chutia Students’ Association for hostels and a museum.

Finally, in recognition of contributions to music, a Grade III government post was approved for Upasana Bakolial Gogoi, widow of late musician Rajiv Sadiya, in Tinsukia district, to be issued before the Model Code of Conduct comes into effect.
