Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted Skill University and expanding industries to boost employment opportunities

Davos: At the World Economic Forum (WEF), while attending a meeting on worker-related issues held on the sidelines, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma focused on the multi-pronged approach of Assam in skilling and employment generation. The Chief Minister asserted that a dedicated Skill University shall soon be inaugurated in the state that can train 10,000 students every year to prepare them for new and ‘future-ready’ jobs, in cooperation with the Government of Singapore, Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Government of Assam
Along with skilling, Assam is also actively building and attracting various industries to ensure sustainable employment opportunities. Assam’s development in its infrastructure, investor-friendly policies, ease of doing business, etc has made Assam a rising center for various industries, especially in the Northeastern states.
To enable our youth to become an integral part of the semiconductor ecosystem, the Government of India has announced and initiated the establishment of a University for Artificial Intelligence and Industry 4.0.
Moreover, the state is working closely with Tata Technologies to set up Industry 4.0 laboratories across all polytechnics, engineering colleges and ITIs to ensure that it develops a talented and highly adaptive workforce as needed. Several industry-specific initiatives are going to be executed and implemented to build a highly skilled and reskilled workforce
The development of hospitality institutions by the Tata Group aims to strengthen service-sector capabilities. All these developments and efforts indicate that Assam places a highly significant value on developing and nurturing its skill ecosystem, positioning itself far better to meet the demands of emerging sectors.
Assam has made combining skill development with industrial expansion part of its strategy. A vision that came out at WEF here is a long-term commitment to empowering its youth, reducing unemployment, and building a resilient, future-ready economy.
