Assam Amends Teacher Transfer Rules: Launches 2026 Digital Transfer Portal

The revised policy sets a minimum service requirement of five years for women and seven years for men posted outside their home districts, while reopening the online transfer system.

Guwahati: The Assam government has amended the law governing the transfer of school teachers, introducing a minimum service eligibility criterion to streamline and rationalise postings across the state. Under the revised provisions, women teachers serving outside their home districts must complete at least five years of service before seeking a transfer, while male teachers must serve a minimum of seven years.

In line with the amendment, the 2026 version of the Teacher Transfer Management System was formally launched at the Samagra Shiksha, Assam office on February 11.

Officials said the upgraded system aims to ensure a transparent, technology-driven and merit-based transfer process, reducing manual intervention and improving administrative efficiency.

Data shared by the department shows that between 2022 and 2026, as many as 42,813 teachers have been transferred across Assam through the digital platform.

With the revised legal framework now in force, the government has reopened the online transfer portal from today, enabling eligible teachers to submit applications through the official website.

Authorities believe the reforms will bring greater fairness, clarity and accountability to the teacher transfer process while ensuring balanced deployment of educators across districts.
