Infrastructure expansion, youth employment and governance reforms form the core of the newly tabled budget

Itanagar: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Tuesday presented a Rs 36,607 crore budget for the 2026–27 financial year in the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, outlining six major focus areas aimed at strengthening infrastructure, improving public services and sustaining economic growth in Arunachal Pradesh.
The budget proposes an allocation of Rs 2,038 crore under the first focus area, “Strengthening Foundations of Our Future”. The government plans to enhance infrastructure and connectivity, expand power and hydropower projects and promote responsible development in the forest and mining sectors to build a resilient foundation for long term growth.
The second focus area, “People Centric Development”, has been allocated Rs 3,320 crore. The funds will support improvements in healthcare, education, women and child welfare, youth and sports, art and culture, rural and urban development, water supply, transport and indigenous research.
To sustain economic growth, the government has earmarked Rs 630 crore under the third focus area. The allocation will support agriculture, tourism, textiles and handicrafts, while also improving the ease of doing business and living conditions across the state.
The fourth focus area, “Entrepreneurship and Employment”, has received Rs 307 crore to promote skill development, startups, industries and youth-led enterprises.
Another Rs 188 crore has been allocated for fiscal stability and resource mobilisation. This includes strengthening revenue generation, restructuring the tax system, monitoring centrally sponsored schemes and exploring opportunities such as carbon markets and green bonds.
The sixth focus area allocates Rs 727 crore for governance and administrative reforms, including strengthening police, fire and emergency services, ILP administration and technology-driven governance.
Mein said the budget aims to ensure balanced development while safeguarding the state’s cultural heritage and promoting sustainable growth.
