Arunachal CM Pays Tribute to 1962 War Hero Havildar Sher-e-Thapa at Taksing

Arunachal CM honours the “Saviour of Subansiri” and lauds Army and ITBP for strengthening civil–military ties during local development initiatives.

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu paid homage at the Havildar Sher-e-Thapa Shaurya Sthal in Taksing, remembering the extraordinary bravery of the 1962 war hero, known as the “Saviour of Subansiri.”

Born on December 27, 1928, Sher-e-Thapa displayed remarkable courage during the Indo-China war. Armed with a light machine gun, he reportedly held off enemy forces for nearly 72 hours despite overwhelming odds before making the supreme sacrifice for the nation. Paying tribute, Khandu said the state and the country will always remember the soldier’s valour and selflessness.

The Chief Minister also expressed deep appreciation for the Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel stationed at Taksing for their wholehearted support during the inauguration of the Tsari Taksing Gajang Shedup Dargyelling Gonpa and related development meetings.

Moreover, he noted that their active participation in civilian programmes ensured the events were conducted smoothly. Such cooperation, he said, goes beyond the call of duty and plays a vital role in strengthening trust, brotherhood, and civil–military harmony in sensitive border regions.
