“APHLC Alliance a Political Risk in Karbi Anglong,” Says Assam CM During MMUA Drive in Bokajan

CM flags public distrust of All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) in Karbi Anglong while extending Rs 10,000 support to 16,395 women entrepreneurs

Bokajan: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on February 24, states that political parties aligning with the All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) could face electoral setbacks, citing strong public sentiment against the party in Karbi Anglong.

Addressing the media on the sidelines of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) drive in Bokajan, the Chief Minister said that public opinion in the hill district remains largely unfavourable towards APHLC. “Whoever joins hands with APHLC may sink politically, as the organisation has failed to win the confidence of the majority,” he stated.

According to the Chief Minister, people in the district remain wary of the party’s style of functioning and fear that its return to prominence could revive instability. “The kind of politics they practised earlier brought unrest, strikes and protests. People do not want those days to return,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister turned the focus to development initiatives in Bokajan, where he ceremonially distributed Rs 10,000 each to 16,395 women entrepreneurs under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA). The financial assistance aims to provide seed capital to women-led micro-enterprises, helping expand businesses and strengthen family incomes.

He added that with over 28.61 lakh women already benefitting across the State, the scheme is driving a transformative wave of women-led growth and building a more self-reliant Assam.
