AIUDF, BPF, UPPL, AJP and RPI (A) Roll Out Nominees as JMM Plans Expansion

Multiple regional and national parties accelerate candidate announcements while JMM eyes tea-tribe belt for electoral expansion

Guwahati: With the 2026 Assam Assembly elections approaching, several political parties have accelerated preparations by announcing candidates across key constituencies, setting the stage for a competitive multi-cornered contest.

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) released its third list, naming Sheikh Shah Alam from Jaleswar, Ali Akbar Miah from Birsing Jarua, Abdul Salam Shah from Mankachar.

Additionally, Farhad Ali from Bhawanipur-Sorbhog and Minar Hussain Mazarbhuiya from Sonai, while Hibbur Rasul Choudhury is set to field from Karimganj North.

The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has also announced its first list for 11 constituencies in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The list, issued from the party headquarters in Kokrajhar and signed by BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, includes, Sabharam Basumatary (Gossaigaon), Rabiram Narzary (Dotma ST), Sewli Mohilary (Kokrajhar ST), Rupam Roy (Baokhungri), Dr. Rezul Karim (Parbotjhora).

Moreover, Paniram Brahma (Sidli-Chirang ST), Thaneswar Basumatary (Manas), Maneswar Brahma (Baksa ST), Maheswar Boro (Bhergaon), Rihon Daimary (Udalguri ST), and Charan Boro (Mazbat).

The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), in its third list that includes five constituencies, fielded Pratibha Brahma (Baokhungri), Ayub Hussain Mondal (Parbotjhora), Ranjit Basumatary (Sidli-Chirang ST), Pabitra Baro (Goreswar), and Rabindra Basumatary (Mazbat).

The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) named Jagadish Bhuyan from Sadiya and Kunki Chaudhary from Guwahati Central. Meanwhile, the Republican Party of India (A) announced Hirak Jyoti Bora as its candidate from Dhing.

In a significant development, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is planning to contest around 31 seats, aiming to expand its footprint by focusing on tea-tribe communities and tribal voters in the state.

As multiple parties field candidates across regions, Assam’s electoral landscape is witnessing heightened political activity ahead of the April 9 polls.
