AIIMS Research Day 2026 Marks 70 Years, Launches Pan-AIIMS Research Consortium

Director Prof. M. Srinivas reflects on seven decades of innovation, discovery, and AIIMS’ enduring role in shaping India’s healthcare future

New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), marked AIIMS Research Day 2026 with a reflective and forward-looking message from its Director, Prof. M. Srinivas, commemorating 70 years of the institution’s contribution to medical science and public health in India.

Addressing the AIIMS community, Prof. Srinivas spoke about the history of the institute since its founding in 1956, from a dream to a world-renowned leader in the field of healthcare, research, and education. He emphasised that AIIMS was conceived not merely as a hospital or teaching institution, but as a national centre dedicated to advancing knowledge, strengthening healthcare systems, and serving society at large.

The importance of research was emphasised as the backbone of modern medicine. Prof. Srinivas pointed out that the research done at AIIMS has impacted healthcare in India and the world, taking the AIIMS impact beyond its walls.

Prof. Srinivas acknowledged that the challenges in modern healthcare are complex and that research today has to be interdisciplinary, rigorous, and evidence-based. From innovation to implementation and policy relevance, the efforts put in at AIIMS have continued to lay the foundation for better treatments, better systems, and better lives.

Moreover, in a significant milestone for Indian medical research, leaders from all AIIMS institutions have come together to formalise the Pan-AIIMS Research Consortium, marking a new chapter in nationwide scientific collaboration. This move is intended to improve institutional collaborations, leverage collective strengths and resources, and fast-track impactful health research that tackles the most pressing health issues in India. Through collective efforts in the AIIMS network, the research consortium is expected to improve the quality of research, its translational potential, and the country’s preeminence in evidence-driven healthcare innovation.

As AIIMS embarks on its eighth decade, the Director reiterated the commitment to excellence, ethics in science, and innovation for patients and society. The message ended with a commitment to the AIIMS tradition of research that informs policy, shapes healthcare, and builds the future of medicine in India. AIIMS Research Day 2026 thus stands as both a celebration of past achievements and a reaffirmation of the institute’s enduring mission.
