Kaziranga National Park reopens for the 2026-27 tourism season, with jeep safaris resuming in Kohora and Bagori and tourists returning after the monsoon closure

Guwahati: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve has reopened its gates to tourists for the 2026-27 tourism season, bringing visitors back to one of Assam’s most celebrated wildlife destinations after the annual monsoon closure.
The reopening was formally marked at the Kohora Range on October 3, with Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah and Forest Department officials welcoming tourists and wildlife enthusiasts.
Jeep safaris have resumed in the Central and Western ranges, with morning and afternoon slots available, while other ranges are expected to reopen in phases. Elephant safaris are not available immediately and are scheduled to resume from November 1, according to the reported schedule.
The reopening follows a strong 2025-26 tourism season, when Kaziranga recorded 4,68,147 visitors, including a record 30,474 foreign tourists. The figures have raised expectations of another busy season for safari operators, hotels, guides and other tourism-linked businesses.
Kaziranga remains one of Assam’s key wildlife destinations, with 2,613 greater one-horned rhinos and 104 tigers recorded in the park according to recent figures cited by the state.
With safari operations now underway, Kaziranga enters another tourism season with wildlife, conservation and the local economy once again sharing the spotlight.
