Mizoram Student Body Pushes for Stricter ILP, Stronger Border and Identity Safeguards

Mizoram’s apex student body MZP adopts 11 resolutions seeking stronger ILP enforcement, boundary protection, identity safeguards and education reforms

Aizwal: Mizoram’s apex student body, the Mizoram Zirlai Pawl (MZP), has adopted 11 resolutions calling for stronger measures to protect the state’s boundaries, identity and existing legal safeguards, alongside reforms in education.

The resolutions were passed during the organisation’s general assembly in Darlawn, Aizawl district, according to MZP general secretary Lalhmingsanga Chhangte. The MZP said it would pursue their implementation.

Among its key demands, the student body called for stricter enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system at all entry points and measures to protect Mizoram’s genuine boundaries.

It also urged strict implementation of the Mizo Marriage and Inheritance of Property (Amendment) Act, 2026, and called for measures concerning eligibility for Scheduled Tribe benefits.

The MZP further sought action against businesses allegedly operated by non-Mizos using Mizo names as fronts and called for a study into the possible impact of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) on Mizoram and its people.

Several resolutions focused on education, including additional examination centres for CUET and NEET, better college transport facilities, inclusion of Mizo history in textbooks, stronger use of the Mizo language in education and intensified drug-awareness programmes.

Lok Sabha MP Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, who attended the assembly, stressed the importance of education and encouraged Mizo students to explore opportunities beyond Mizoram.
