Assam Congress suspends 14 leaders and functionaries for six years over alleged anti-party activities during the 2026 Assembly election

Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has suspended 14 party leaders and functionaries for six years with immediate effect over their alleged involvement in anti-party activities during the 2026 Assam Assembly election.
The suspension order was issued by APCC General Secretary (Organisation) Ramanna Baruah following directions from APCC president Gaurav Gogoi.
The action covers office-bearers associated with the Silchar District Congress Committee (DCC), Assam Youth Congress and Sonai-based party units.
Among those suspended are Silchar DCC vice-presidents Samsur Rahman Choudhury (John), Aktar Hussain Barbhuiya and Mojibur Rahman Choudhury; general secretary (Organisation) Ajmol Hussain Laskar; and general secretaries Shaine Ahmed Laskar and Mehboob Hussain (Ripon). Assam Youth Congress general secretary Ijaj Laskar is also among those suspended.
The list further includes Hanif Alam Mazumder, Altaf Hussain Laskar (Titu), Najib Ahmed Laskar, Jahur Choudhury, Kadir Ahmed Laskar, Ansar Hussain Barlaskar and Rakib Ahmed Mazumder.
According to the order, the leaders were found to have engaged in activities against the party during the Assembly election. Their suspension will remain in effect for six years from the date of the order.
Copies have been forwarded to senior Congress leaders, including K C Venugopal, Jitendra Singh and Gaurav Gogoi, as well as the Assam Congress Legislature Party leadership and relevant APCC units.
