AJYCP staged a protest in Lidu, Tinsukia, demanding revival of closed coalfields, local jobs and road construction in Bengali Gaon
Margherita: The Margherita regional committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a protest on the national highway at Lidu in Assam’s Tinsukia district, demanding the revival of closed coalfields under Coal India’s North Eastern Coalfields (NECF).
The protesters also sought employment opportunities for unemployed local youths and immediate construction of a road in Bengali Gaon under Lidu Shamukjan Gaon Panchayat.
The AJYCP said the prolonged closure of several NECF coalfields had deprived local young men and women of employment opportunities and contributed to rising unemployment in the area.
The organisation demanded that NECF be made more productive and operational through scientific measures while ensuring employment opportunities for local youths.
The protesters also raised concerns over the poor condition of the Bengali Gaon road, alleging that the muddy and dilapidated stretch has caused significant difficulties for villagers and school students.
“Is this the ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ of the Modi government?” the organisation said, highlighting difficulties faced by residents in accessing hospitals and other essential services.
The AJYCP demanded immediate construction of the road and urged the government to address the problems faced by local residents. A memorandum outlining the demands was later submitted to the district authorities.
