Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Kiren Rijiju assess flood damage, assuring rehabilitation, compensation and restoration support for affected communities

Dhemaji: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited flood-affected areas in Assam’s Dhemaji district to assess the damage caused by the recent floods, accompanied by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and senior state leaders.
During the visit, the ministers inspected the affected locations and reviewed the impact of the floods on homes, farmland and public infrastructure. Assam Ministers Atul Bora and Ranoj Pegu, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, Jonai MLA Bhubon Pegu, Sissibargaon MLA Jiban Gogoi and Mising Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Paramananda Chayengia were also present.
Speaking after the inspection, Chouhan described the devastation as severe, stating that a river had changed its course, washing away houses, destroying crops and damaging electricity infrastructure.

“We witnessed the destruction here. A river changed its course and everything was destroyed. Several houses were washed away, crops suffered extensive damage and electric poles collapsed,” he said.
Calling the situation a major crisis, Chouhan assured residents that both the Central and Assam governments would work together to restore normalcy. He said debris and silt deposited on agricultural land would be cleared to enable cultivation to resume, while damaged houses would be rebuilt and compensation provided after official assessments are completed.
Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment, the Union Minister said Assam would receive all necessary assistance for relief, restoration and rehabilitation.
