Restrictions in force till voting ends; non-voter movement barred, security tightened at all entry points

Dimapur: The inter-state border between Assam and Nagaland has been sealed ahead of the April 9 Assembly elections as part of heightened security measures during the silence period.
According to a notice issued by Dimapur Police, the restrictions came into effect from 5 pm on Tuesday and will remain in place until 5 pm on polling day. Security personnel have been deployed across all entry and exit points to ensure strict enforcement.
The move follows directives from the Election Commission of India under the Model Code of Conduct, which mandates strict controls during the 48-hour silence period when all forms of campaigning are prohibited.
Authorities said that inter-state border crossings will remain closed, except for movement along national highways. Only individuals travelling for genuine transit purposes will be allowed on these routes.
Movement of non-voters in border areas has been restricted, and entry of outsiders into constituencies has been barred to prevent any undue influence on voters.
Police have urged residents, traders, and commuters to avoid unnecessary travel during this period to prevent inconvenience and ensure the smooth conduct of elections. Officials said the measures are aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring free and fair polling across the state.
