Samson’s fireworks and Bumrah’s death-over magic powered India past England in a last-over T20 classic

Mumbai: In a high-stakes semi-final marked by relentless scoring and shifting momentum, the India national cricket team secured a hard-fought seven-run victory over the England cricket team at the Wankhede Stadium. The team booked their place in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup. Nearly 500 runs were scored across 40 overs in a gripping contest that went down to the final delivery.
Put into bat first, India produced a commanding batting display. Sanju Samson led the charge with a blistering 89 off 42 balls, striking eight fours and seven sixes, while Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya accelerated in the death overs. India crossed 200 in just 17 overs and eventually posted a formidable 253 for 7, one of their highest totals ever in a T20 World Cup knockout match.

England responded with remarkable intent. Despite early setbacks, the side refused to back down and continued to attack the Indian bowlers. Young batter Jacob Bethell emerged as the standout performer, delivering a magnificent innings that kept England firmly in contention. His fearless hitting and smart placement dismantled India’s bowling attack for long stretches and revived England’s hopes of pulling off one of the greatest chases in T20 World Cup history.

However, Jasprit Bumrah delivered under pressure, conceding just 33 runs in his four overs and bowling a decisive 18th over that stalled the chase. With 30 required off the last over, late sixes from Jofra Archer were not enough, as England finished at 246 for 7.
India’s composure in the closing moments ultimately sealed a memorable win, sending the hosts into another global final.
