Experimental halts under Northeast Frontier Railway to improve access, ease travel and boost regional connectivity

Guwahati: In a significant boost for rail passengers across Assam, the Ministry of Railways has approved new stoppages for 52 trains at key stations under the Northeast Frontier Railway on an experimental basis. The decision follows Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s request to improve last-mile connectivity and make train services more accessible to smaller towns and rural areas.
The newly approved train stoppages are:
Kanyakumari–Dibrugarh Vivek Express at Abhayapuri
New Jalpaiguri–Guwahati Vande Bharat Express at Barpeta Road
Alipur Duar–Mariani Express at Barua Bamungaon and Dhansiri
Dibrugarh–Howrah Kamrup Express at Bijni, Chabua, Kampur, Sorupeta and New Misamari
Kamakhya–Anand Vihar Northeast Express at Bijni and Kendukana
Tambaram–Silghat Town Express at Bijni
Dibrugarh–Lalgarh Awadh Assam Express at Bokajan, Lakswa and Naharkatia
Silchar–Rangiya Express at Chandranathpur and Jamunamukh
SMVT Bengaluru–Agartala Humsafar Express at Chandranathpur and Patharkandi
Kolkata–Sairang Express at Chapar
Rangiya–New Tinsukia Express at Dhansiri

Officials said the move will significantly enhance mobility, reduce dependence on distant junctions, and benefit students, office-goers, traders and daily commuters across the state.
