11,000 Yaba Tablets Seized in Salmara: Two Smugglers Apprehended

Joint operation by Salmara Police and BSF foils night-time drug smuggling attempt

Guwahati: In a major crackdown on narcotics, Assam Police intercepted a drug smuggling attempt under the cover of darkness in Salmara, seizing 11,000 Yaba tablets and apprehending two suspects.

Acting on credible intelligence, a joint operation by Salmara Police Station and the Border Security Force (BSF) led to the successful recovery of the narcotics. Authorities also seized a motorcycle and two mobile phones allegedly used in the trafficking operation.

The swift action underscored the vigilance and coordination between local police and paramilitary forces in curbing the drug trade and preventing a significant quantity of contraband from entering the market.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the operation in a social media post, writing, “Smugglers tried the night – law turned on the light. Acting on credible input, a joint operation by Salmara Police and BSF recovered 11,000 Yaba tablets. Two apprehended, along with a motorcycle and two mobile phones taken into custody. Kudos to Assam Police.”

Officials said such intelligence-driven operations will continue as part of the state’s sustained push against narcotics smuggling and to safeguard public health and security.
